Catching Up To Germany, The "Climate Leader"

  • Here in New York, our leaders fancy us to be the “climate leader.” After all, our legislature has enacted the “Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act” of 2019, setting out the most aggressive mandatory emissions-reduction targets of all the U.S. states. Allegedly, 70% of our electricity will come from “renewables” by 2030. Nobody can top us!

  • But can we really catch up to Germany?

  • Germany was in the “climate leadership” game before almost anybody else had even heard of it. It was all the way back in 1990 that Germany adopted its first emissions-reduction target — 25 to 30 percent fewer CO₂ emissions by 2005, compared to 1987 levels. In 2000, while New York was still in its climate diapers, Germany passed its Renewable Energy Act, granting large subsidies for the development of wind farms. In 2010 Germany adopted its “Energiewende” legislation with mandatory emissions-reductions targets of 80-95% by 2050. All along, the country has been on a crash program to build wind turbines and solar panels for well over 30 years.

  • So sorry, New York. Germany is the true “climate leader.”

  • Perhaps we should check in on how it is going over there.

A Preview On Some Of The New York Energy Impossibility

A Preview On Some Of The New York Energy Impossibility
  • Dr. Benny Peiser and I have now begun our 2024 GWPF U.S. speaking tour.

  • Yesterday we appeared for an event at the Texas Public Policy Foundation in Austin, Texas. Between in person and online, we understand that over 400 people attended the event. (I believe that video of this event will be posted at some point on the TPPF website, but I don’t find it there yet.). Tonight we will be speaking at the 3 West Club, 3 West 51st St. in New York City, at 6 PM.

  • As mentioned previously in my post two weeks ago announcing tonight’s event, the title is “Europe’s Net Zero rebellion, European elections, and the coming U.S. reckoning.” Benny will cover the European piece of the subject matter, while I am taking on the “coming U.S. reckoning.”

  • I’ll give you here a brief preview to whet your appetite.

The Latest On The Federal War Against Internal Combustion Vehicles

  • I’m old enough to remember a time when there were serious environmental concerns with internal combustion engine vehicles.

  • NOx and SOx emissions caused a thick layer of brown smog in the atmosphere during calm weather spells in summer and winter; and a layer of black soot would cover the snow along the roadside in the winter.

  • But gradually that all got cleaned up. Today the bona fide serious environmental concerns about internal combustion engines are far in the past. But the war to eliminate them — supposedly on environmental grounds — is just ramping up.

  • The Biden Administration is all in with the plan to get rid of the ICE car. Why?

The Record Is Not Good For Perpetrators Of Politicized Criminal Proceedings

  • With the guilty verdicts in People v. Trump delivered by a Manhattan jury last week, the prosecutors are surely giving themselves a big pat on the back. We really got him this time!

  • Undoubtedly they have convinced themselves that getting Trump branded a “convicted felon” (with little chance to get that reversed on appeal before the election, no matter how weak the conviction) will cause him to sink in the polls. At the very least, the successful prosecution of the main political adversary would have to be a positive for President Biden’s chances of re-election.

  • I wouldn’t be so sure

Getting Ready For The European Elections

Getting Ready For The European Elections
  • The Global Warming Policy Foundation 2024 American speaking tour is now set for next week.

  • Dr. Benny Peiser, Director of the GWPF, and I will be speaking at three events on June 11, 12 and 13 on the topic of “Europe’s Net Zero Rebellion, European elections, and the coming U.S. reckoning.” My piece is the “U.S. reckoning,” while Benny will cover the backlash against Net Zero currently beginning to boil up in Europe.

  • Meanwhile, take note: there is clearly a political earthquake gathering force in Europe against the green energy takeover. Exactly how much force it has gathered so far is something we will learn much more about after June 9.

  • But whether the shift in this election is small or large, either way it will be significant.

Today's Scorecard For New York's Kangaroo Legal System

Today's Scorecard For New York's Kangaroo Legal System
  • The kangaroos’ request shown above, as reported yesterday on X by the Babylon Bee, may not be completely justified with respect to the U.S. federal justice system. It remains to be seen how the prosecutions of our ex-President play out in that arena.

  • However, the kangaroos’ request is 100% justified with respect to the justice system of the State of New York. Here in New York, the recent actions of our prosecutors and legal system make “kangaroo courts” look wise and sensible by comparison.

  • Somewhere in the mid-2010s, New York prosecutors and regulators decided that all previous norms and ethical restraints had been abolished, and it was now OK to use all resources of their offices to bring down disfavored political targets by any and every means they could think of.
